How can we not get romantic about sports?
Its that time of the year where the non-touring folk see increased tennis television coverage, red clay, high decibels of screams, and that musical applause between the announcement of the chair umpire’s french scoring.
It is a special time of the year. The ambiance and spectator accounts of being there for two weeks dubbing this clay tournament as “most-friendly” compared to all the slams. The trip to Paris for most visitors is a start of spring season from a deterred cold winter. To see the diverse crowds, and the celebs who do spend time between this venue, and possibly Monte-Carlo are all enjoying a break or leave from their home countries of employment, or possibly to enjoy the immaculate weather of wine tours, surrounding euro- ventures but back to the tennis.
Some upsets already. The betting odds are moving every day, as top seeds get their work cut out for them to advance to the last round of 32. My opinion of who will be hard to beat is Petra Kvitova, Elina Svitolina and the likes of Caroline Wozniacki and Simona Halep. Not considering the draw and the likelihood of these four being the eventual semi-finalists, but the men also have some hard picks, so far Dominic Thiem, Alex Zverev, and Gregor Dimitrov have been fighting to keep their hopes alive.
